Oasis "Definitely Maybe" review:

The Band:

Liam Gallagher – vocals, tambourine

Noel Gallagher – lead guitar, backing vocals, production, piano

Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs – rhythm guitar, piano, production

Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan – bass, production

Tony McCarroll – drums, production

You are not required to like the Gallagher brothers. Probably many people don't. They are not the Beatles or the Rolling Stones and didn't also saved rock and roll. Perhaps their mission has already been served.

1994. Three years after "Nevermind" and the Nirvana-mania the world watched the disintegration of the "grunge" scene....

Manchester, two brothers with other two mates appear out of nowhere with this debut and begin a change. "Definitely Maybe" is the best-selling debut album in history on the UK. Oasis clearly had strong influences from British rock n' roll bands like The Who. Eleven songs full of arrogance, ambition, "gin and tonic," cocaine and guitars. Many guitars.

"Rock n Roll Star"

For the record, this song was in the top 10 of "Q" magazine between the "50 most exciting tunes ever."

"Shakemaker"

... a bit psychedelic.

"Live Forever"

The greatest glory of Noel Gallagher and the best performance by Liam on vocals. Dedicated to John Lennon. Classic solo from "guitar hero" Noel.

"Up in the Sky"

Very Beatles!

"Columbia"

Brilliant introduction.

"Supersonic"

The band's debut single. Nearly perfect.

"Bring it on Down"

.Half Pistols, Jam means. It is not my favorite but it has its value. Gutter Girls Noel idiots on call with "I'll be scrapping Their Lives from the sole of my shoe tonight"

"Cigarettes & Alcohol"

Another classic.

"Digsy's Dinner"

A typical English song. Its Kinks, its Small Faces is, is (do not laugh) Blur. The opening riff is killer. Ironically, the most funny is "Swinging London" of all.

"Slide Way"

I heard recently that Noel based this one on Neil Young's "Cortez the Killer".

"Married with Children"

A perfect farewell song.
